Dace Pūce

The full-length film "Pit" (2020), which is the cinema debut of director and screenwriter Dace Pūce, has been a huge success at festivals around the world. It has won three main awards (Grand Prix) at Tallinn "Black night" work-in-progress, (Estonia 2019), 62 Nordische Filmtage Lübeck (Germany, 2020) and Baltic Debut Film Festival (Russia, 2021), as well as was a contender for the Latvian Oscar in 2021.

Dace Puce has received the Europein Cinematography award as the best director for her second feature film "Manny" (2020). This film, which has been in various world festivals, won the main prize at RIFF (India) and Miami International Sci-Fi Film Festival (USA) in eight different categories, is the first film co-produced by Latvia with India. Dace's arsenal also includes the documentaries "Moon tired" (2016), "Annie" (2017) and "Let's go to KeiDize!" (2021), which is a co-production with Australia.

Before Dace Pūce became a graduate film director, she worked in the A. Rūtentāls Movement Theater, was a singer, actress, as well as a director and producer of events, commercials and music clips. In 2003, she established her own company "Marana Productions", which deals with sound recordings, produces audiovisual works and events of various genres.

Dace is constantly improving her directing, acting, and screenwriting skills by attending studios, master classes and seminars all over the world, but in 2016 she founded her own private school "Pūces Akadēmija", where she conducts film directing and production, speech, storyboard and acting courses.

Dace Pūce obtained two master's degrees at the Latvian Academy of Music (co-conductor), the Latvian Academy of Culture (film director, producer) and a bachelor's degree at the Faculty of Economics and Business of the University of Latvia. She studied film direction at Brighton Film school (Great Britain) and New York Film Academy (USA). She has a Meisner acting technique certificate from the True Acting Institute (USA) and attended the acting technique courses of Ivana Chuvbbuck (USA) (Germany, Denmark).

In 2023, Dace Puce staged the musical play "Robin Hood" at Mikhail Chekhov Theater and was the playwright and director of this play, and in 2014, she was the director for V.A.Mozart's song play "Bastien und Bastienne" and V. Pūce, P. Brūvers' musical "The Wizard of Oz".
